Abstract
In order to assess the physical growth and development, and nutritional status of primary, middle and high school students in the city of Seoul, physiques of 7,235 persons (Male; 3,665, Female; 3,570) were measured from March 1 to March 31 in
1994
and
variouis physical and nutritional indices, maximum growth age related to them were calculated.
@ES The results are as follows;
@EN PHYSICAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
The growth of body height showed straight linear development among male in the ages 7-16 and among female 7-14, and after that showed slower development. The age of cross over between two sexes was between 11.5 to 12.5 years of age. The maximum
growth
age was between 10 and 11 years of age (5.7 cm) in male and between 10 and 11 years of age (5.52 cm) in female. In terms of body weight, it also showed straight linear development among male in the ages 7-16 and among female 7-14, and after that
showed
slower development.
The maximum growth age was between 11 and 12 years of age (6.91Kg) in female.
In terms of chest girth, it showed two step development among male in the age of 7-13 and 13-17, and among female in the age of 7-14 and 14-17. The age of cross over between two sexes was 11 and 12 years of age.
In terms of sitting height, it showed two step development in the age of 7-14 and 14-17 of both sexes and the age of cross over between two sexes was between 10.5 to 14.5 years of age. The maximum growth age was between 11 and 12 years of age
(3.65cm)
in male and between 11 and 12 years of age (5.04cm) in female.
2. PHYSICAL AND NUTRITIONAL INDICES
Relative body weight increased between 7 to 17 years of age in both sexes and female exceeds male from then on.
In relative chest girth, narrow chest shape was shown in 7-15 age group for male and in 7-12 age group for female and after that age group, normal chest shape was shown. Intermingling occured in 12.5 and over age group and female exceeds male
from
then
on.
In the cases of relative sitting height, it is the same as that of relative body weight. It reached the highest point in 7 age group for both sexes and after that, it slowly decreased and that of female was greater than that of male in 10.5 and
over. It
showed 52-54 in male and 53-54 in female through the whole age group.
Rohrer index was more full in female rather than in male and was less full in adolescence rather than later on complete growth.
Kaup indices of both sexes increased with age. The index was less than 2.0 for male in 7-14 age group and for female in 7-13 age group and with this, it appeared that development of horizontal axis to longitudinal axis was poor. The index was
more
than
2.0 after 14 age group in male and 13 age group in female and developmental state had been good.
Vervaeck index was 69-86 for male the and 66-86 for female, and increased with age in both sexes.
Pelidisi index was 92-96 for both sexes and increase with age.
3. MAXIMUM GROWTH AGE OF PHYSICAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
In body height, MGA was 10.49 (Public school; 10.29 Private school; 10.59) for male and 10.37 (10.56 and 10.34) for female which showed that MGA for both sexes appeared in similar periods.
In body weight, MGA was 11.44 for male and 11.49 for female which showed that MGA for both sexes appeared in similar periods.
In chest-girth, MGA was 14.92 for male and 11.78 for female which showed that MGA for female appeared about 3 years earlier than for male.
In sitting height, MGA was 11.67 for male and 11.45 for female which showed that MGA for both sexes appeared in similar periods.
Maximum growth ages of physiques appeared in order of body height > body weight > sitting height > chest-girth.
